SILENCE WILL HAVE TO DO

by
Micky McKeon

I could sing back at the birds
And put my love for you into melodious words
But I think it just might embarrass you
So for now, silence will have to do

If only I could arrange my thoughts into prose
And in poetry, liken your beauty to a rose
But my juvenile rhymes, a child could outdo
So for now, silence will have to do

I could wage war on all who doubt your glory
The battle would be brave and bloody and gory
But my muscles would be too weak to see me through
So for now, silence will have to do

Women like you are the cause for pure art
For a poet needs a muse to show his aching heart
It's love alone that drives great men to songs and violence
But me, my love, you drive to joyful silence
